I Wish

Sharon_2My mother started a tradition many years ago of putting precious memories and sentiments to poetry. My adorable sister, you remember her, twin Sharon, has continued that tradition so beautifully. She wrote this poem many years ago, and just recently posted it on her website, Roll Call Ministries. (Check out her children’s book, Linda the Ladybug Goes to Heaven.)

I have some new cards to show you, but until I get a chance to upload them, I thought you might enjoy taking a moment from the craziness of holiday preps to enjoy this little poem from Sharon. Thanks, sis.

I Wish I Could Have Been There
By: Sharon Murray

I wish I could have been there that first Christmas day,
So that I could have seen the angels in all of their array.
I would have joined in singing as the angels sang that day;
Praise to God almighty for our King is born today.

I wish I could have been there that first Christmas day,
So that I could have seen the precious babe in a stable lay.
I would have bowed in reverence,
And from my heart would say:
Praise to God almighty for our King is born today.

I wish I could have been there that first Christmas day,
I would make Him a beautiful card and in the middle say:
I love you dear, sweet Jesus for all that you have done for me,
You have made it so my life is good for eternity.
And thank you for your sweet, spirit of which has had a part,
Of showing me the way to live from which I’ll not depart.

So praise to you sweet Jesus, you have shown me the way,
And praise to God almighty for our King is born today.
