The Fragrance Lingers

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal,
love leaves a memory no one can steal.
    ~From a headstone in Ireland

The retired Roses in Winter stamp set is probably my all-time favorite sets. It isn’t just a stamp – it’s a technique! One of the sentiments in the set is "The fragrance lingers in the hand that gives the rose." Okay, that seems kind of cryptic. But, I thought about it a while, and I think it means that, when you give something of yourself to someone, you will always remember that moment and treasure the opportunity you had to bless their lives. Deep.

After my philosophical reflection (yes, deep) I decided this was the most appropriate expression of sympathy for my dear friend. After an extremely brave and valiant battle, she lost her husband to that damn cancer (sorry, I can’t say that C word without the proper adjective). Being a loving wife first and a professional nurse second, she gave him the most devoted and incredible care. When the dust settles and the heart heals just a little, I hope she’ll find comfort in the peace that she gave him one of the most precious gifts you can give someone you love so dearly.

It was heart wrenching to have to make this card, and I wanted it to be perfect. Well, I just didn’t trust my design skills, so off to Splitcoast Stampers I went, and found this beauty by nitestamper. Here’s my tribute to my friend.
