Memory Miser Jar

I am a miser of my memories of you
And will not spend them.

Memory Miser Jar

I have the worst memory Ever! Don't think that doesn't scare the crap out of me. Mom had severe dementia and, of course, as a nursing home regulator I'm around confused residents all the time. So, you know, every time I go into a nursing home, I pick out my future room – in the secure unit.

I don't write a Christmas, year-in-review letter because, shoot, I can't remember it all.

Memory Miser Jar

I don't worry about my feeble mind too much because, well, worry and stress can cause, yep, you guessed it, more memory loss. And what I lack in brain power I make up in sex appeal (snort!). Thankfully, Mr. Catered Crop has a nearly photographic memory. Well, except for when it comes to finding the car keys.

But, really, isn't it true for everyone that time just goes by too quickly? We (usually) remember the big things, but the little joys can go by so fast almost unnoticed.

Memory Miser Cards

I have a plan. Quite genius I think. Okay, I wasn't really the first person to come up with this plan (just check Google or Pinterest for Memory Jars). I's just so genius I like to think it's my idea.

I grabbed a vintage pickle jar Mom McClain used to store her flour. It's a really big jar. I plan on making lots of memories.

Throughout 2013 my family and I will throw things into the Memory Miser Jar like ticket stubs, handwritten notes, wine corks, photos, gift tags, fliers, receipts, match books, pencils with logos, maps, plane tickets, . . . well you get the idea.

I created Memory Miser Cards – cards we can use to write down special memories big and small from 2013. They're so sweet, they can be used later to slip into a scrapbook.

We're creating a paper trail. And on New Year's Day 2014 we'll open the jar and enjoy 2013 all over again.

Who knows. Maybe next year you'll get a Christmas letter.

MFT Pre Release Rally

Now that we've teased and tempted you all week long, it's almost time for you to shop for your favorite Brand Spankin' New products from My Favorite Things (MFT). But first it's time for our Die-namics Feature and Pre-Release Pep Rally!

This is my favorite day of the new release festivities. The Design Team has been busy creating jaw-dropping and inspiring projects for you, and we've saved the best for last. We've taken an in-depth look at this month's Die-namics, while re-visiting the amazing sets being released tonight at 10:00 PM EST RIGHT HERE in the MFT Boutique.

And while we're at it, how about we make your life even easier with a "cheat sheet" of all that's new?  Head over to the MFT Blog to print out a shopping list. (It will come in very handy at the party for winning prizes – just sayin'.)

Here are the details about the upcoming release:

  • You can attend the New Release Party tonight (January 8) from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM EST HERE in the MFT forum, where you can WIN PRIZES!
  • The MFT release, including all new stamp sets and Die-namics, is on January 8 at 10:00 PM EST.  You'll find all the newest products HERE at release time.
  • If you'd like to see all the designers' posts for today, just click over to the MFT Blog NOW.  Be sure to leave comments as you go for the chance to win $10.00 gift certificates given away daily.

The entire Laina Lamb Design collection is absolutely perfect for creating your 2013 paper trail. I had fun using the newest sets, Document It – Off the Chart and Journal It – For the Record, and I also grabbed the set released last month, Document It – Captured Memories.

MFT Document It For the Record and Off the Chart

Each new Laina Lamb Design release comes with an accompanying Die-namic set. I used the Accent It – Labels and Tabs set to add some fun elements. And, I figured out that the smaller type in the Typewriter Alphabet set is perfect for customizing the smaller tabs.

How perfect is this new Keys and Locks Die-namic for "capturing" your memories!?

My Favorite Things Die-namics Keys and Locks

Because the best memories are the ones you make with others, I had to include some of the newest Valentine-themed Die-namics: Heart STAX, Heart Doily and Boy Meets Girl.

MFT Die-namics Boy Meets Girl

And, finally, glassine bags just cannot be over-embellished, right? So I added the new Leaf Filled Flourish Die-namic.

I let the newest release of premium dye inks drive my color theme. They're sweet and subtle and won't overshadow all the other things going into my Memory Miser Jar.

Shew . . . that's a lot of ingredients. Here are the rest that are already available in the My Favorite Things Boutique.

Other ingredients include twine, Uline Flat Glassine Bag, Canvas Corp Home Basic Black Decorate Clothespin, and My Mind's Eye All is Bright 6" x 6" Designer Paper Pad.

The jar I used is Mom McClain's 13" tall vintage glass pickle barrel with a wire bail and wood handle. Yes, you can buy these. Just check out Etsy or Ebay. They usually run about $50.00, but, of course, you can use any jar, basket, box, boot, bag . . .

I hope you have fun making a Memory Miser Jar of your own. But, more importantly, I hope you have many wonderful memories to put in your Memory Miser Jar in 2013.
