Family faces are magic mirrors.
Looking at people who belong to us,
we see the past, present and future.

I’m so excited about this simple tag – mostly because of what’s inside the box.
Do you remember View-Masters? When I was a kid (I’m vintage, but NOT antique) the closest we came to seeing a movie in 3D was through the stereoscopic effect of a View-Master. I was entranced, especially with my beloved Sleeping Beauty reel.
Fast forward to this week . . . Mr. Catered Crop’s five siblings all live in different states now – they’re spread all over tarnation. Every two to three years all of us invade some unsuspecting town and do what middle-aged siblings do best – reminisce. Our reunion is this week so I can finally share the surprise goodies I have for the sibs.
I found a company who will make custom View-Master reels. Each white box contains a 3D viewer and a custom reel of family memories.
Oh Snap! We just took reminiscing to a whole other dimension! That’s Reel-y Fun! (Sorry, bad puns.)
tips & techniques
Working with Image3D and their on-line “Build a Wheel” tool to create the reel was a dream. I just uploaded seven pictures, and cropped and resized as needed. We ordered seven viewers, and each of them arrived in a white hand-out box with the custom reel already loaded and ready to view.
I made the tag with My Favorite Things stamps, ink and dies. It’s easier to glue the black reel onto the kraft paper before cutting the tag out out of the kraft paper. Doing it that way created a nice embossed edge all around the tag.
Here are the rest of the ingredients.
