Toad-ally for You – Tissue Coozies

Time's fun when you're having flies.

What can I say, I got carried away with frogs. I love it when I can find something fun to make to go with my paper projects, like these little Tissue Coozies for my Toad on You card. They turned out almost as cute as Kermit himself.

Anna Wight of Sassy & Sweet Notes is one of my favorite bloggers and craft artists. Well, shoot, the woman can do anything: crafts, illustrations, ranching, cooking, sewing. I want to be her when I grow up. Her adorable Kleenex Coozies inspired me to try a few.

Darlings, these are so easy to make – only four seams. And, how fun if you can find fabric and tissues that match! I found this fun frog print at Tomorrow's Quilt in Waco, and the ribbon is Stampin' Up!'s white taffeta ribbon. Anna and I followed Holly Ramer's instructions at her very fun site, Stitch Craft. (I took Anna's lead and cut the outer print 6" by 6" and the inside print 6" by 8" to make the center stripes a little wider.)

These little Coozies were so fun to make, don't be surprised if you see them again.

Winter Wonderland Swinging

Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth,
for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire:  it is the time for home.

bloghopDec10As much as I love not having to own a winter coat in Texas, I still miss the Indiana white winters. This month the Paper Garden Project design team is taking us on a winter wonderland tour – you know, just to make me more homesick for a Hoosier Christmas. Whether you're cursing the white stuff while shoveling your walk, or, like me, wishing for a good snowball fight, I hope you enjoy our winterland walk. While you visit along the walk, be sure to take note of each designer's name and their special holiday treat in their blog post. For example, my name is Linda and my special treat is Pumpkin Pie – yum. Once you finish your tour, you can send an e-mail to custserv@papergardenprojects.com with the list of designers and their holiday treat for a chance to win any four digital stamp sets of your choice, including the gorgeous new Christmas Foliage set.

Here is the garden tour guide list.

And, of course, here is my winter wonderland project using the precious stamp, Winter Swing, by Penny Black.

Recipe

I've been a follower of Anna Wight for years. Anna is a fellow Texan, and an illustrator, rancher, seamstress, photographer, and incredible paper craft artist. I love her style. With two different sized paper punches, clear-drying adhesive like Crystal Lacquer, and glass glitter, you can follow her tutorial to make these luscious crystal snowflakes, here.

Anna says she likes to use a makeup wedge sponge (one of my favorite and cheapest tools) to dab matte finish gel medium onto the body of her project and then add some crystal glitter for sparkle. I didn't have a gel medium, so, I experimented with Tim Holtz crackle paint. I painted the entire surface of the paper with Tim's Rock Candy crackle paint and then added sprinkled fine glitter around the edges of the oval. I love how it antiqued the whole project.

As usual, I did a lot of paper piecing. I like to use a W1 Copic Marker to shade my paper pieced elements. You can get some other ideas for shading paper pieced pieces at the current challenge over at Copic Creations, Challenge #39. And, because this is a Penny Black image, you might want to also check out the challenge at the Penny Black Saturday Challenge, our favorite things (mine being, of course, glitter).

I found the birch bark wooden star in a gift shop as a close-out item. It was perfect for embellishing. Here's the rest of the recipe and the Copic markers I used. I provided links for the items you can find at Paper Garden Projects – everything at the store is 23% off during the 1-2-3 sale.

Copic Creations Challenge – Let it Snow!

Oooo, tomorrow we're supposed to get about an inch of SNOW here in Central Texas. I'm so excited. I know, I'm easily entertained, but we don't see much snow here in the Austin area. So, it's a perfect time to jump into the fun of the Copic Creations Challenge #17 to color snow/snowpeople. This is only my second card using Copic markers – I Love! – so I'm learning a lot as I go. These Copic Creation Challenges are great for a newbie like me because the site offers tutorials for the challenge and beautiful inspiration.

The stamp sets are two of Anna Wight's stamps at Whipper Snapper Designs: Spirit of Christmas and Winter Quilt. Oh, I love Anna Wight – I've been stalking following her photography, gorgeous paper craft art and stories about farm life at Sweet & Sassy Notes for years.

Here are the Copic markers I used from my small collection:

2009 12 03_0129

I followed the instructions in Susan Tierney Cockburn's book, Paper Bouquet to make the pinecone and boughs. The pinecone and boughs used the following ingredients:

  • Paper Bunch tool kit
  • Paper Bunch punches: small peaer, mega fern, and pine bough,
  • modeling paste,
  • Pearl Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist,
  • Ivory Flower Soft, and
  • Stampin' Up! cardstock: Old Olive, Garden Green and Chocolate Chip

You can purchase Susan's books, the punches, tool kit, and Flower Soft at Scrappily Ever After in Temple, Texas. (Of course, she offers mail order – watch for her monthly sales.)

Recipe

The rest of the recipe is:

  • Paper: Stampin Up! Very Vanilla and Chocolate Chip. Stampin' Up! Holiday Treasures Designer Series Paper (retired).
  • Ink: White Signo gel pen. Ranger Walnut Stain Distress Ink. Stampin' Up! Close to Cocoa and Creamy Caramel Classic Ink for sponged distressing. And, I spritzed on Walnut Ink.
  • Fibers: Celebrate It Basic Ribbon from Michaels (until I can get my hands on the new Stampin' Up! 5/8" satin ribbon – yum).
  • Tools: Spellbinders Nestabilities Classic Scalloped Ovals Large and Classic Ovals Large. Stampin' Up! 1" square punch.
  • My Mom's sewing machine with some basic beige thread. (Yes, I need to improve my sewing skills).

Bundle up everyone, and stay warm . . . hugs,
