Tropical Hi

Tropical Hi

Thank you for all of your sweet comments these past few days. You are so kind. Let’s escape together. Doesn’t a tropical contact high sound just lovely?!

Sun Sational

What a tease it was to make this card . . . day dreaming about tropical sands, tropical beaches . . . and tropical drinks.

A piña colada has my name on it somewhere.

Tips & Techniques

Assembling this card with so many Die-namics was almost like putting together a puzzle, it was a blast.

The ever-so-talented Barbara Anders has a smart tip to get all the separate pieces of this new Sun Ray Die-namic to align perfectly when you just use the “negative” spaces (here). I followed her tip but also popped up the pieces with dimensional pop-up dots.

When the sun shines on this card you can really see all the popped-up layers. I love that My Favorite Things added extra palm leaves to this new Palm Tree Die-namic so you could add dimension to it.

I added some clear Stickles over the sand/ocean bottom piece – to make that beach sparkle (or maybe just to resemble the salt on my Margarita).

Here are the new toys from My Favorite Things that are the guts and soul of this card – all available Now!

Finished size: 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″. Other ingredients: Echo Park Splash 6×6 Paper Pad, Ranger Clear Rock Candy Distress Stickles.

Thank you for escaping with me. Have a Sun-Sational day.

Picnic with You

“Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. “Pooh?” he whispered.
“Yes, Piglet?”
“Nothing,” said Piglet, taking Pooh’s hand.
“I just wanted to be sure of you.”
~ A.A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh

Back in 1975 Coco Hall founded Freemountain Toys out of her home in Burlington, Vermont. She expanded into a local gristmill and at one time her stuffed “Vegimals” were hand sewn by as many as 140 local women.

Freemountain was awarded a certificate of commendation by the Public Action Coalition on Toys for its safe, imaginative products in non-sexist packaging. The United States Department of Agriculture included several Vegimals in its National Agricultural Library of educational materials.

Isn’t it amazing what one, imaginative woman can do?

Picnic with You

Coco sold her business in 1980 but before she did, The Bike Rack in Bloomington, Indiana, sold the stuffed “Vegimal” toys to bicycle, canoe and hiking enthusiasts. The future Mr. Catered Crop was co-manager of the shop and we had just started dating.

Let's Do a Picnic Lunch

Mr. Catered Crop and I met on a bicycle club picnic. And the first gift Mr. CC gave me was a Vegimal stuffed bear, “Emile Bearhart,” with a pocket containing a red velour heart.

I still have him –  both of them – the bear and the man.

And, somehow, after being married 31 years on Wednesday, I haven’t lost the heart in the pocket – of either of them.

Tips & Techniques

  • It’s My Favorite Things teaser time again. I’m highlighting one of the newest Pure Innocence images, On a Picnic. Oh, Swoon. The My Favorite Things boss lady has all the scoop about our Teaser Time at the My Favorite Things Blog – details about the latest stamps and Die-namics, links to all the designers’ crazy-fun creations, and, yes, prizes.
  • The little doll is Copic colored, fussy cut and paper pieced.
  • I used Michele’s gorgeous pointilism technique to color the bear.
  • The sketch is from this weeks My Favorite Things Wednesday Stamp Club, MFTWSC (WFTWSC127). Isn’t it gorgeous?

Here are the Copic markers and MFT products I used today. The links for all of the new products will be live and the products will available for purchase in the MFT Boutique on June 11th at 10:00 PM EST.

Sunshine Quilt

Blissful Butterfly

When I was re-entering academia to get my Registered Nurse license, I was so nervous. I mean, I was 40 years old for goodness sake. My ever so smart sister-in-law sat with me at her kitchen table and gave me incredible advice that not only boosted my confidence but also helped me graduate at the top of my class.

She moved out of state and I don’t get to sit at her kitchen table any more. But! She’s coming for a visit this weekend and we get to celebrate that she just finished her re-entry into academia. She exited with a bright and shiny new master’s degree. I’m so proud and happy for her.

It’s such a happy day when someone who helped you reach your dreams soars so high.

Tips & Techniques

It’s the fifth day of Teaser Time at My Favorite Things (MFT). Today we’re unveiling a new Hawaiian themed set from Doodle Garden, and Palm Tree Die-namic and this gorgeous Sun Ray Die-namic, so be sure to check them out, along with all the gorgeous creations from the Design Team at the MFT Blog.

I wanted to make this new Sun Ray Die-namic look like a quilt top – kind of a crazy quilt. So, I brought out a paper piercer and poked holes all around the edges. Then, I hand sewed the edges with two strands of six-strand DMC embroidery floss. I used the yellow patterned paper below with a graduation up to blue paper above so it would hopefully look like a sunset.

It’s so subtle you can barely see it, but before I stamped the sentiment onto the die-cut butterfly (from Lisa Johnson Designs new Blissful Butterfly Die-namics), I stamped the butterfly with watermark ink. You can just barely make out the butterfly’s antennae.

Here are the MFT products I used today. The links for all of the new products will be live and the products will available for purchase in the MFT Boutique on June 11th at 10:00 PM EST .

Finished size 4-1/4″ by 5-1/2″. Other ingredients: DMC Embroidery Floss (822); My Mind’s Eye Stella Rose Hattie Papers 6×6 pad; VersaMark Watermark Stamp Pad.
