Hey Pumpkin, I Pick You

Vegetables are a must on a diet.
I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread
and pumpkin pie.
     ~Jim Davis

Ah, you can just smell the apple cider and pumpkin pie.

And there it is – my love for Fall food. I love it all. Chili with cornbread, persimmon pudding, caramel apples, pumpkin pie. They're the flavors of my Indiana home and the reason why Weight Watchers loves me so much right now.

Candy Corn! Oh, I am in so much trouble. Pumpkin season just does me in! Weight Watchers – don't fail me.

Because I love you all I did my due diligence and found us a great recipe for Weight Watchers Pumpkin Cupcakes (only two Weight Watcher points!). I'm still trying to get into the Sexy Nurse Halloween costume – some day, right?!

My pumpkin patch girl is Copic colored, fussy cut and paper pieced. The pumpkins in the wagon are layered behind and in front of curly raffia. And the rest of the card is embellished with raffia ribbon. Love that raffia for creating Fall scenes.

I'm very excited to enter this jar into the Moxie Fab World Jars of Joy challenge. If you love old Mason canning jars, be sure to check out their challenge. They've curated some beautiful Mason jar images that just make me swoon and yearn for Mom's canned apple jelly.

I used the Perfect Layers tool to create all those gazillion layers – even on the fishtail banners. I'm thrilled to be one of the Ambassadors, because it means I get to offer all of you a 5% discount and flat-rate priority shipping. (Just enter catered5% at checkout.) I'm crazy excited this month because they're featuring me later on their Facebook page. Oh . . . my head is swelling.

Here is the sketch I used from My Favorite Things, the Copic markers and the rest of the recipe. The Kerr canning jar is one of the old canning jars my daughter and I found on our flea market treasure hunts, probably at Canton First Monday Trade Days. Bon Apetit!

Sweet Tea

Ecstasy is a glass full of tea
and a piece of sugar in the mouth.
  ~ Alexander Puskin

Yes Ma'am, we Southern girls like our Sweet Tea. The sweeter, the better.

When I came across these heart-shaped tea bags on Design Sponge (via Pinterest), I knew I had to try to make them for our "heart" challenge this week. The tutorial is easy to follow, but here are a few tips I came up with to make it even easier.

  • Use heart-shaped dies to cut your unbleached muslin. The slightly embossed edge makes a great sewing guide.
  • You can stamp on the muslin after you cut out your heart shapes but before you assemble them into tea bags.
  • A little funnel is handy for getting your loose tea into your heart shaped tea bags as you're sewing them shut.
  • The My Favorite Things Notched Tag and Bon Appetit dies and stamp sets are great for making the tea tags.

Check out those sugar cubes. Yes, I made them. How cool is that?! They're just granulated sugar, mixed with a teeny bit of water and paste food coloring and then pressed into a candy mold. Cindy Hopper at Skip to my Lou has a great, pictorial tutorial here.

All of this sweet-tea goodness needs something to hold it all. Check out my tea bag baggie.

Yes! A treat box shaped like a tea bag. Adorable, right?! You can find a free template to make the tea bag baggie here, at Waltzingmouse Makes.

Of course that darling doll image is one of Heather Ellis' Digi Stamp Characters (Pure Innocence PO22). Run fast, because today Heather's having a sale on her images. I'm still pinching myself that Heather Ellis is sponsoring our challenge for these two weeks. Such a treat! For you stampers who to stamp ink over toner ink, you can find this same image as a clear stamp at My Favorite Things.

This project gave me a chance to try some new things. That was almost as refreshing as a big ice cold glass of sweet tea.

Here are the Copic markers and the rest of the recipe. Enjoy.

Big Lunch Date

Riddle: How do you ask a tyrannosaur to lunch?

Give up?

"Tea, Rex?" Hee Hee  . . . that riddle makes me giggle.

It looks like you don't need to ask this dinosaur to lunch –  he's already got a mouth full.

Do those scallops across the middle of the card look like scaly Dinosaur skin?

You won't find the riddle on a stamp anywhere that I know of. I just typed it up, printed it onto the Echo Park paper, and cut it out with the My Favorite Things Mix and Match Banners Die-Namics.

This was such a fun card to make. Oh, and it's a hard working card . . . it's going into these challenges.

  • The Crazy for Challenges asked us to make a child's birthday card (C4C120).
  • Paper Sundaes asked us to paper piece (PSC100). Well, Snap! One of my favorite techniques.
  • My Favorite Things has a fabulous sketch (below) as always (MFTWSC55).

Here are the Copic markers and the rest of the ingredients in the card's recipe.

Stay tuned. I have a post planned for later in the week about "Craft Math" and a very cool announcement. There's a clue in my recipe.

Hugs, and stay safe – don't become lunch for some neighborhood Tea-Rex.
